Jana Ambrózová (SK)

Jana Ambrózová is the head of the Department of Ethnology at the Institute of Culture and Tourism Management, Culturology and Ethnology at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. She specializes in musical anthropology, focusing on the musical traditions of minorities, styles of playing in traditional string bands in Slovakia and Central Europe, as well as theoretical and methodological issues in the analysis of traditional instrumental music. She is a member of several international academic societies, such as the European Seminar in Ethnomusicology, ICTMD, Society for Ethnomusicology, and International Society for Ethnology and Folklore. Since 2018, she has been Vice-Chair of the Study Group for Music and Dance of the Slavic World at the International Council for Traditional Music and Dance (UNESCO). As a violinist and voice teacher, she focuses on traditional playing styles and polyphonic singing.
