WHAT IS TUNING OF THE CITY?
Tuning of the City is a large outdoor event for Trenčín and, at the same time, a participatory musical composition created specifically for the city: for its residents, neighbours, visitors, tourists, its public spaces – and above all for anyone who wants to join in and experience the city through sound in a new way for a day.
Tuning of the City is also an educational project that introduces people of different backgrounds, ages, and life experiences to the freedom and joy of music and artistic experimentation. Through a series of recurring sound workshops led by renowned instructors, it develops creativity and prepares participants for taking part in the large final collective musical event – the Tuning of the City happening, which will take place on 22 May 2026 in the streets of Trenčín. No musical training or previous experience is required – all you need is the willingness and courage to get involved and try something new.
The project was initiated and is organized by musician and educator Fero Király and sound artist and cultural manager Eva Vozárová from the ooo collective.
Tuning of the City is a celebration of togetherness, the joy of play, the courage to explore the new, and an ode to the freedom of creation and experimentation. It is also a symbolic tribute to key figures of Slovak experimental art, Ladislav Kupkovič and Milan Adamčiak, and to their unorthodox artistic actions and happenings drawing in not only artists, but also the landscape, the city, the public, and the rhythms of everyday life.
Ladenie mesta is part of Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Absolutely! From spring 2025 to spring 2026, under the guidance of experienced instructors, dozens of people from across the Trenčín region will come together for creative workshops, gradually preparing for a large final collective sound performance — the premiere of an original composition titled Tuning of the City, created especially for Trenčín and to be performed on 22 May 2026 in the city’s streets.
We’re looking for groups of active people who would like to take part in the project, especially, though not exclusively:
- Pupils and students of Schools of Arts and Music Schools
- Choirs, amateur theatre groups, folklore music ensembles
- Amateur bands, wedding bands, funeral bands, and brass bands
- Other active communities – with or without musical experience: leisure clubs, senior clubs, neighbourhood groups, friend groups, hobby groups, etc.
No problem! Experience with live performance or music can be helpful, but it’s by no means necessary. We’ll guide you through everything you need.
We expect enthusiasm and a willingness to take part in shared project We also invite your group to attend one to four workshops between 2025 and summer 2026, led by our instructors, where you’ll prepare for the collective event in May 2026. The number, length, and exact dates of these workshops will be arranged individually to suit the needs of each group. If everything goes well, we also expect your participation in the final Tuning of the City performance in Trenčín, which will take place on 22 May 2026.
If you have a space where your group meets and where rehearsals or workshops could be held, that’s a welcome advantage.
Toward a collective sound performance bringing together multiple elementary schools of arts and other ensembles and groups from across the Trenčín region. The performance, titled Tuning of the City, will take place on 22 May 2026 in Trenčín. This is a truly one-of-a-kind opportunity an opportunity that may never come again. It will be an unforgettable experience not only for your child, but also for you, the parents, and for your friends and acquaintances as the final event will be open to everyone, and we warmly invite you already now!
From spring 2025 to summer 2026, workshops and rehearsals will take place within the participating groups, led by our instructors. They are fully tailored to the needs and abilities of each group, but every group should take part in at least one or two workshops over the course of the entire period.
Our instructors will come to you, and we will do our best to adapt the dates to your availability. However, we do expect that you reserve the necessary time for the project so that workshops don’t have to be postponed or cancelled.
At the workshops, you’ll get to know the material, learn what your “part” in the Tuning of the City composition will be, and gradually prepare for it. We’ve organised and taken part in similar workshops many times before (on other occasions), and we can promise that it will be both fun and a memorable experience.
The project will conclude with a large collective performance in Trenčín. You’ll perform, guided by our instructors, together with a wide range of professional musicians. If all goes well, it will be something truly special.
The project brings together well-known artists and experienced educators from Slovakia and nearby countries: Matej Sloboda, Erika Coyle Krkošková, Martin Jánošík, Vojtěch Šembera, Eva Šušková, David Danel, Anka Čonková, Barbora Tomášková, Michal Matejka, and many others.

Participation is free of charge for everyone who wants to take an active part. What we will need from you is your energy, your time, your enthusiasm, and your trust.
No, responding to this offer does not commit you to anything. We will follow up with additional contact, possibly an in-person meeting, and only then will we confirm your group’s participation and agree on what it will look like.
We’ll do our best to involve as many of you as possible so that the final event is as vibrant and exciting as it can be. However, our resources are not unlimited, and we have only a finite number of instructors.:)
We don’t have the capacity to form new groups from scratch, which is why we need to work with already existing groups or communities, whether formal or informal. We’ll take care of everything else and will try to find a place, a part, for as many interested participants as possible.
The project is organised by the artistic collective ooo, led by sound artists and curators Fero Király and Eva Vozárová and their team, with whom they have long been creating other acclaimed projects – most notably the annual intermedia event JAMA.ooo in Banská Štiavnica, Banská Belá, and the surrounding area, which received the Biela Kocka Award from the Slovak Gallery Council for the best independent project of 2022, among many others.
