Matej Sloboda (SK)

Matej Sloboda is a Slovak composer and conductor. He studied composition in Bratislava, Graz, Vienna, and at the California Institute for the Arts. He is a doctoral student at JAMU in Brno and has also worked at the Universität der Künste Berlin. As a composer, he writes works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, solo instruments, choir, chamber groups featuring a prominent solo instrument, as well as electronic and improvised pieces. He also writes music for films and commercials. His compositions have been performed at festivals such as the ISCM World Music Days in South Korea, Melos-Étos, Orfeus, Asynchronie, Biela noc, and others. He is the founder of EnsembleSpectrum and one third of the experimental music collective Critical Band.
