Csilla Nagy (1983) studied sculpture at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and completed her doctoral studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in 2015. Through exploring craft techniques and materials, her works address layers and fragments of memory — individual, familial, or collective. Recently, she has been deeply engaged with both ancient and contemporary ceramic techniques, seeking connections between ceramics and visual art.

Symbionts
The concept of Symbionts emerged as a speculative reflection on the future life on our planet. The forms of the objects are inspired by the study of marine sponges of the Porifera species, an ancient and evolutionary dead-end branch of life. The work explores the interrelationships between humans, the environment, nature, and technology by creating hybrid environments where the boundaries between nature and technology, human and non-human actors, become blurred. At its core are data-linked ceramic objects that communicate with each other and function as both interactive and sonic entities, sensing their surroundings. Based on specific data, such as ambient temperature, air pressure, CO₂ levels, and UV radiation, the Symbionts algorithmically transform sounds from a shared, publicly accessible web database: a kind of collective memory containing both natural and civilizational recordings. The ceramic shells have various glazes that reflect their environment, just as their interactive component does.
The first version of Symbionts was created in 2022, and the objects have since been exhibited in various iterations in the Prüger-Wallner Garden in Bratislava, the Ernest Zmeták Gallery in Nové Zámky, and the House of Arts in Brno.
