We heard the Mediterranean Cicada orni in six locations across Slovakia. Could this be the sound of the climate crisis? We invite you to cultivate sonic sensitivity, to delight in the subtleties of sound, and to listen to the Loud New World.

Sonata of a Gentle Drill

The installation and performance Sonata of a Gentle Drill originated from an accidental acoustic experience while walking through the city, the artist heard the sound of drilling from a nearby renovation. A sound usually perceived as disturbing caught her attention for its melody and rhythm. This moment became the starting point for a work that explores the boundary between noise and music.

Prablesková recorded a variety of urban sounds and from them she composed a “harmony of the city,” in which everyday noises – including those of Partizánske – are transformed into musical material. The recordings are assigned to individual keys within a diatonic scale, allowing the instrument to be played as if reading sheet music. Her work is interactive: audience is invited to create their own compositions from the urban sounds that intrigue them.
