Guitarist and music educator Michal Matejka, in collaboration with the association ooo, is carrying out two new projects in Banská Štiavnica autumn of 2021. As part of the event JAMA – the 75th Year of Milan Adamčiak, he will introduce his new solo project Utopia. Additionally, within the accompanying program of the same event, he becomes a lecturer for a full-day sound workshop for non-musicians – students of the Bratislava Academy of Fine Arts. The outcome of the workshop will be a collective sound performance.
Utopia is about the search and discovery, or even the non-discovery, of ideal sonoric, musical, and non-musical relationships that fit together and have a clear and readable place in time and space. These relationships are partly determined by composition, as well as the improviser’s ability to create them directly in the process of free improvisation.
Michal Matejka is involved in bands such as Ankramu, Škvíry, and Spoje, the Prague Improvisation Orchestra, and the improvisation trio Kordík/Matejka/Tóth. He explores the possibilities and extended techniques of playing the electric guitar, free improvisation, and contemporary song-based music.
WORKSHOP: Friday, 22nd October, 9:30 – 18:00, Accommodation Marína and Parter BSC, Banská Štiavnica
UTÓPIA: Saturday, 23rd October, 18:00, Hájovňa KTC, Banská Štiavnica
The concert Utopia and the sound workshop by Michal Matejka are parts of the year-long project ooo_2021 by the association ooo, which is supported from public funds by The Slovak Arts Council as the main partner. The concert is held with the support of the Music Fund Slovakia. Thank you!
